For cottage gardens, period properties and anyone who wants roses or a vine overhead, a well-built timber pergola remains hard to beat. We construct ours from substantial treated or hardwood sections — not the spindly kit timber that twists within two years — set on concrete pads or ground anchors, sized so the proportions feel generous rather than mean. Stained, painted or left to weather, timber brings a warmth aluminium can’t imitate.

A pergola is rarely a standalone purchase; it stands on something and sits within something.
