A Recent Wilmslow Garden Project

We recently completed a challenging rear garden transformation on Knutsford Road, Wilmslow — a sloping plot with significant level changes that had defeated a previous landscaper. Our solution was a two-tier garden design: a new retaining wall in natural sandstone created a level upper terrace, while the lower garden was turfed with premium lawn turf and bordered with a curved planting scheme of evergreen shrubs and perennials. A wide run of porcelain steps connected the two levels, and LED bollard lighting was set into the retaining wall to create a stunning effect after dark. This project is a perfect example of the kind of solution-focused landscaping that has made us one of the most recommended landscape gardeners in Wilmslow.

Gardening in Wilmslow: Local Knowledge Matters

Wilmslow’s residential areas range from Edwardian and Victorian semi-detached properties in Dean Row and Handforth to large modern detached homes in the prestigious roads off Alderley Road and Macclesfield Road. Each property type brings its own challenges and opportunities. The older properties often have established boundary trees and deep clay borders that require careful preparation before new planting. New-build gardens in Wilmslow frequently suffer from compacted subsoil left by builders — a problem our landscape gardener Wilmslow team corrects with soil remediation before any new turf or planting goes in. We also understand the value of privacy screening in this densely populated suburb, and we design bespoke planting schemes and fencing solutions that create seclusion without feeling enclosed.

What Wilmslow Clients Say

“The team transformed what was a very difficult sloping garden into something genuinely beautiful. They handled every detail — drainage, levels, planting — and the communication throughout was excellent. We’ve already recommended them to our neighbours.” — Mark & Louise B, Wilmslow

Landscaping in Wilmslow: What Local Gardens Need

Wilmslow gardens combine high expectations with awkward ground. Much of the town sits on heavy Cheshire clay, and plots around Fulshaw Park, Lindow and Dean Row often slope or hold water through winter. A patio or lawn built to a national-average specification here fails quickly: standing water within a year, rocking slabs within two, frost damage by the third winter.

We build for these conditions as standard — 150mm compacted MOT Type 1 sub-bases, falls for drainage, and French drains or soakaways where the ground needs them. It’s the difference between a garden that lasts three winters and one that lasts twenty years.

Popular projects in Wilmslow include porcelain patios, lawns and artificial grass, retaining walls and stonework for sloped plots, and full garden makeovers. For realistic 2026 budgets, see our Cheshire landscaping cost guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which areas of Wilmslow do you cover?

All of Wilmslow and its surroundings, including Fulshaw Park, Lindow, Dean Row, Handforth, Styal and Morley Green. We’re based in Mere near Knutsford, around 15 minutes away.

How much does a new patio cost in Wilmslow?

A properly engineered porcelain patio typically costs £120–£190 per m² in 2026 — around £4,200–£6,500 for a typical 25–35m² rear patio, including excavation, a 150mm compacted sub-base, drainage provision and waste removal.

Can you work on sloped gardens around Wilmslow and the Edge?

Yes — sloped sites are a speciality. We build retaining walls, terracing and steps with the engineered drainage that Cheshire clay demands, typically £200–£400 per linear metre depending on height and material.

Do you provide free quotes in Wilmslow?

Yes. We visit your garden, discuss what you want to achieve, and provide a detailed written quote broken down by labour, materials, machine hire and waste removal — free of charge.
