Follow us as we walk you through the process of transforming a backyard into a stunning patio area with retaining walls and lush landscaping.

The Vision for Crompton Road, Macclesfield

Our clients on Crompton Road in Macclesfield approached us with a desire to revitalize their sloping backyard. They wanted a durable patio, sturdy retaining walls to manage the terrain, and a space that would be both practical for family use and visually appealing. Our team, led by Jason Costello (contact: jason@cheshire-landscape-gardener.com or 07742611273), worked closely with them to design a solution that maximizes space and enhances the natural beauty of their property.

As you can see from the before picture above levels and drainage a major issue .

Step-by-Step: The Transformation Process

1. Site Preparation and Demolition

The project kicked off with thorough site preparation. We partnered with Cheshire Demolition to clear the area, removing old structures and leveling the uneven terrain. This step ensured a solid foundation for the new design, setting the stage for a seamless transformation.

2. Excavation and Retaining Walls

Given the slope of the backyard, we utilized mini excavators from Pivotal Plant Hire to carefully excavate and shape the land. Timber retaining walls were constructed to create level areas, providing stability and adding a rustic charm to the garden. These walls not only address the slope but also define the patio space, making it safe and accessible.

3. Patio Installation

We laid a spacious patio using high-quality stone pavers, ensuring durability and a polished finish. The patio, positioned at the base of the retaining walls, offers a perfect spot for outdoor gatherings, relaxation, and play—complete with a soccer ball for family fun, as seen in the photos. The level surface, achieved with precision, complements the natural surroundings and enhances the backyard’s usability.

4. Landscaping and Final Touches

To complete the transformation, we added gravel pathways and prepared the area for future planting, ensuring a low-maintenance yet vibrant garden. The retaining walls and patio were finished with meticulous attention to detail, creating a cohesive look that blends with the Macclesfield neighborhood’s charm. The project now stands as a testament to our commitment to quality craftsmanship.
